Dean Von the Rockstar

When I first met Dean I didn’t even know he was a musician, much less a Rockstar. When we met in 2005 he had just sold his computer store and never mentioned his song writing or the old days.

The Catalyst

It wasn’t until Leah, a dear friend of Dean’s and now as dear to me for nearly 17 years, brought a Walkman, I think that’s what it was, to a little bar in Azusa.

I had driven out from my apartment in Hollywood to watch him shoot and spend the night. Dean played APA league pool at the time.

When Leah walked up to me and said, “Did you know that Dean used to be in a band?” I said, “No I had no idea, he had never mentioned it.” So Leah hands me the earbuds and walked away.

It didn’t take but three seconds for me to walk over and playfully push him saying, “Oh my God!” Why didn’t you tell me you were a Rockstar?” Of course, being the man of not so many words, he saves those for his songs, he walked away shrugging his shoulders.

At that time I had only known Dean a couple of months. We actually met on an online dating site, no not eHarmony, that’s another blog in itself.

A True Rockstar

I listened to every song and was blown away. His voice and talent was something that I hadn’t heard in a very long time. Being a musician myself I appreciate someone who has got it going on.

After I listened to each song a couple of times I immediately told Dean that I needed a songwriter and some songs for my pool shows and the rest is history.

Today Dean is back in the studio and I am so very proud. He was born to write, play and perform music. You won’t believe what is coming out of his head next.

Stay tuned and don’t forget to listen to the Dean Von Music Podcast Show available everywhere.

Timothy Gaines Interview – Former Bass Player for Stryper, Sin Dizzy, Aldo Nova, No Stranger & Tim’s Solo Career

Just like many others want to know what is going on with Mr. Timothy Gaines, and what is he up to now? that is the BIG Q?

I have known Tim for over 40 years, and will talk more about that on the show, but after reviewing his last few years in the Music Business, Tim is primarily a Solo Artist / Musician even knowing who he has played with, but it doesn’t end there, Timothy went on to play with bands such as Richard Marx, Aldo Nova and many other legendary artists that have led the way for so many other artist and musicians, Timothy Gaines is right up there with the top players in the Music Industry in my book and is a great person to know and be friends with, wouldn’t have it any other way, Tim is straight up an awesome guy.

This Interview will go back to when Tim and I first met, it was in Hollywood, specifically down “On The Strip” we were playing at Gazzarri’s on the same stage but in different bands, Tim was in White Lace at the time and I was in Aftershock, this was a great time to be in Hollywood if you were into the Rock & Roll Club Scene.

Anyway I will leave the rest for the Dean Von Music Podcast Show, Tim and I have lots to talk about and some of our conversation has never been heard in public before, so “Stay Tuned” this interview is going to be revealing and epic at the same time, I personally can’t wait, so we will see you live on Saturday July 2, 2022 and I will publish the podcast @ 5 AM – Wake Up to the Dean Von Music Podcast Show Interview with Timothy Gaines to be heard around the world, so tune in, you will not want to miss this one.

Crazy Like Me You Bet

Crazy Like Me is a song that everyone can relate to. While I rarely, if ever, write in the first person, I thought I would take the opportunity to introduce myself. I am Dean’s content contributor; however, I have also been his partner for 17 years, 18 in August.

We are Crazy Like Me

I’m revealing myself as Deans most recent podcast, Crazy Like Me, holds a special place in my heart through both tumultuous and over the moon moments. I know every word and every inflection in this song.

I have always told Dean that he wrote this song for me before he even met me. Then again, I do think that our paths may have crossed at the Starwood. That was back in the early 80’s before I moved to Australia.

The Dean Von Music Podcast Show

As Dean explains, “Everyone feels a bit crazy. Everyone feels a little nuts sometimes.”

During this podcast Dean delves into the mechanics of this popular rock ballad. Crazy Like Me, which has been recorded and performed by the composer himself, as well as other artists.

Dean also performs the song live and plays the recorded version in the Dean Von Music Podcast studio breaking down the elements of Crazy Like Me.

Never to See the Light of Day

Written in the mid-80’s Crazy Like Me is one of Dean’s most requested tunes whether he is performing live or hanging out with friends, which is funny because Dean never thought anyone would want to record this song, much less his bass player.

Needless to say Mark Canaday loved it even though Dean didn’t think the rest of the band Danger would want to perform the song live, much less record it. How wrong he was.

Throughout this episode of the Dean Von Music Podcast Show, Dean talks about the various layers of production and how working with great musicians will make or break the tune.

Fans of the song will know that it is available on Spotify, Amazon Music and of course on TouchTunes jukeboxes across North America and Canada.

Music to Your Ears

When Dean talks about songwriting you can hear the passion in his voice. You can hear why he loves his craft when he shares his songwriting process with the audience.

As Dean explains, “I usually start with the guitar, but not always. I wrote Can’t Keep My Eyes Off Of You on an acoustic guitar, but sometimes I’ll start with a rhythm or beat.”

Dean is always saying, “The songwriting process isn’t complicated, but you’ve gotta feel it. You’ve got to be in the mood or it just isn’t going to happen.”

A Fan Favorite

Cant’ Keep My Eyes Off Of You came pretty easy to Dean and like the rest of his catalogue of tunes has truly stood the test of time. Fans know every word and call the song one of their Dean Von favorites.

Always coming up with new songs Dean is currently in the studio working on a blues song as he is, “Getting back to his musical roots.”

Publicity Shot Aftershock

Dean Von Music Podcast Show is a Hit

Dean with Aftershock

As a songwriter who writes his own lyrics and has plenty to say it is no wonder that this marvelous entertainer decided to start the Dean Von Music Podcast Show.

In Number 4, the song writer talks with guitar player Bruce Paller, from Dean’s first rock band at the age of 15, about life with the band Aftershock in Hollywood back in the late seventies and early 1980’s.

In the podcast you will hear Dean and his guitar player, who still writes and produces music by the way, talk about the great times they shared with this popular band that had a few originals to say the least.

Hollywood Loved Aftershock

As the house band for Gazzari’s in Hollywood Dean and Bruce wrote quite a few tunes that are still relevant today. As they say, “Classic rock never dies.”

Bruce Ripping on the Guitar with Aftershock

Bruce talks about how the hair band that was Aftershock was slightly different than the Glam Rock and Big Hair Bands of the 80’s.  This is just another reason the band was so successful and popular.

Even today Aftershock fans are eager to attend reunions and listen to stories about the old days. One more reason to tune in as he will be chatting with a few other band members from Aftershock and his other bands for future music podcasts.

What I Found Lately

My name is Lois Larimore, and while I rarely, if ever, write in first person, I thought it was appropriate as Dean Von is my partner and has been since 2005.

A New Chapter with Dean Von Music

Dean_VonAbout a year later, Dean joined a band that would be known as Crossroads. Crossroads still plays occasionally and was a great venue for him to hone his stage skills. Needless to say, they needed no honing.

The first time I saw Dean Von perform, he was on fire. He knows how to get the crowd going and is just incredible. He pulls you in and isn’t afraid to get in your face when he is wowing his fans.

Word Spread Quickly about Dean Von

Dean_Von

Once Dean started performing again, his fan base quickly grew. His old fans found him and started following him again. Dean was so well liked that he was asked to perform at a sellout crowd for a Ronnie James Deo tribute. Dean wore Ronnie’s shirt onstage and was amazing.

A New Distributor on the Horizon for Dean Von

In the past, I had been doing distribution. One of his hits, Can’t Keep My Eyes of off You is on Touchtunes and about 12 of his songs are available for download on Zedge for ringtones and notification. Dean’s music is also used for My Pool TV and his Pool Tip series on YouTube.

Obviously I can’t do it all so we are excited to bring a new distributor onboard who will be licensing the the library for film, television and new media.

Welcome aboard and be sure to follow Dean Von. Things are about to get interesting.
